A script clearance report identifies potential legal and clearance issues in your script, such as conflicts with names, locations, brands, music, or other copyrighted material. Having a clearance report assists with ensuring your production complies with legal standards, avoids privacy concerns, and prevents potential lawsuits or other complications down the line, and is an essential component of the due diligence process all producers are required to follow in order to secure errors & omissions (E&O) insurance for their productions.
A title clearance report is a legal review that ensures the title of your production (film, TV show, web series, etc.) does not infringe on any existing trademarks, copyrights, or the titles of other works. This report is vital to avoid conflicts with other projects that may have similar or identical titles. E&O insurance providers require a title clearance report to protect your production from potential legal claims related to the use of a specific title. It helps you verify that your chosen title is legally available, reducing the risk of having to change it late in the production process or face costly legal disputes.
E&O insurance providers generally require title clearance reports for the U.S. and Canada as a minimum, since these territories are particularly litigious and have stringent intellectual property laws. However, if your production is intended for worldwide distribution, some E&O insurers may require a global title clearance to ensure that your title is clear not just in North America but also in all international markets where the production will be released. For productions aiming for worldwide coverage, it’s essential to confirm whether the title is legally available in all territories, as legal standards and title protection can vary from country to country. Always check with your E&O insurance provider and distributors to understand their specific requirements based on the intended distribution territories of your production.
We use proprietary, patent-pending AI-assisted tools to quickly scan your script for potential legal issues. Our AI flags any names, locations, products, or dialogue that may need further review. From there, our team of experienced researchers performs detailed checks and verifications to ensure nothing is missed. We then compile a comprehensive report that highlights any clearance concerns, along with suggested alternatives when needed.
Unlike public AI engines, our proprietary AI tools are specifically designed for the entertainment industry. They are highly tailored to identify potential legal issues in scripts and ensure the security and privacy of your content. Public AI tools may expose your script to third-party platforms, while our AI works within a secure, encrypted environment, ensuring that your sensitive material stays confidential.
We take privacy and security seriously. Our proprietary AI operates in a secure, encrypted environment, meaning your script is never uploaded to public platforms or used as data for third-party tools. This ensures that your sensitive content remains protected throughout the clearance process.
If an item in your script such as a character name, location, or product is flagged as being “ may not be clear” we will do our best to suggest alternative names for such item that are clear to use. If it can be ascertained, we will also provide you with the applicable contact information required in order for you to attempt to secure permission to utilize the name of an item which would not be clear to use without such permission. Certain items that are flagged as “may not be clear” may require further review by an entertainment lawyer to make a final legal determination as to whether the element can be used as is or needs to be modified. Our clearance report helps identify these areas, but we always recommend seeking legal advice to confirm.
Our service offers a unique balance of speed, accuracy, and privacy that many competitors can't match. We use proprietary, patent-pending AI tools designed specifically for script and title clearance, ensuring faster results while maintaining confidentiality. Our approach combines the best of both worlds—AI for fast, initial processing, and human expertise for in-depth revision, research and context. This allows us to save time while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and thoroughness.
Although AI enhances our efficiency, we also maintain a high level of human oversight to ensure accuracy and context. Additionally, we invest in proprietary tools that protect your privacy and ensure high-quality results. This combination of AI technology, human expertise, and security is built into our pricing, delivering exceptional value compared to competitors who might use less secure or thorough methods. That said, as we expand the scope of our business operations our goal is nevertheless to achieve economies of scale which will facilitate enabling us to pass cost savings along to our customers through lower fees.
While our AI-powered process helps streamline the initial processing phase, our standard turnaround time currently remains similar to our competitors at 5 business days because we still rely on a human-in-the-loop review to ensure accuracy and context. The combination of AI and human expertise allows us to provide a high-quality, reliable report that may take a little more time than purely AI-driven services, but with a far greater emphasis on thoroughness and precision. Our AI-powered process does nevertheless enable us to offer expedited turnaround times of 3 business days or even 1 business day as premium options. As we expand the scale of our business operations our goal is nevertheless to reduce our standard applicable turnaround time once we can do so effectively without sacrificing our quality control.
Yes! If we determine that certain names or elements in your script can’t be cleared, we try to provide alternative suggestions that are ready to use. However, it’s important to note that certain flagged items might require additional review by an entertainment lawyer to make a legal determination about whether changes are necessary.
If you’ve made changes to your script or need to clear additional names after the initial clearance report has been completed, we can perform supplemental name clearances. Five supplemental name clearances are automatically included with every script clearance report ordered. This process involves reviewing the newly added or modified names to ensure there are no legal issues or conflicts. Just like the original report, we use proprietary, patent-pending AI tools and human review to ensure accuracy and thoroughness. Depending on the complexity of the changes, additional legal review may be necessary to make a final determination on the use of certain names.
